British Foreign Secretary. The UK will not allow Sudan to be forgotten and to do so would be unforgivable

On Friday, January 24, 2025, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy visited Sudanese refugees in Adré, eastern Chad, in the first-ever visit by a British Foreign Secretary to the Chad-Sudan border town of Adré, according to a press release published on the UK government’s official website. The Foreign Secretary announced additional funding of 20 million pounds sterling during his visit to Adré on the Chadian-Sudanese border.
“Sudan must not be forgotten,” said David Lamy, announcing a political and humanitarian action to address the “catastrophe” in Sudan. On his visit, the minister met with a group of Sudanese refugees mostly from the Darfur region who fled the initial attacks by the Sudanese security services in collaboration with Janjaweed militias since 2003. In addition to survivors of the recent genocide and ethnic cleansing led by the RSF and allied Arab militias against the region’s indigenous population (African ethnicities), particularly the Masalit, in the first half of 2023.
Foreign Minister David Lamy reminded the international community:
“The Sudanese people are facing violence on an unimaginable scale. This is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.”
“Millions have already fled their homes – in the face of a power struggle that has led to horrific atrocities against civilians and famine on an unbelievable scale.”
“The international community must wake up and act urgently to avoid this appalling death toll escalating in the coming months, leading to instability and irregular migration to Europe and the UK. Under this UK Government’s Agenda for Change, we are working to address the drivers of migration in order to secure the UK’s borders. The UK will not allow Sudan to be forgotten. To do so would be unforgivable.”
The Secretary of State intends to work with partners to reinvigorate the political process on this issue. He plans to convene a meeting of foreign ministers to mobilize international efforts to work toward ending the conflict and getting aid to where it is most needed.
