Administrative crisis threatens refugees at Gaga camp in eastern Chad

Reliable sources revealed to Mirror News that an administrative crisis has occurred in Gaga camp, one of the Sudanese refugee camps in eastern Chad. This administrative crisis arose after the registration of Chadian citizens within the lists of Sudanese refugees in exchange for paying money to the administration of Gaga camp with the aim of resettling them to the United States of America in coordination with (Sheikh…) in Gaga camp (Black 31) is one of the sheikhs affiliated with the new refugees who survived the genocide in West Darfur in 2023.
One of the refugees, who declined to give his name, said that the sheikh in question has been threatening refugees to withdraw their files from the refugee registry and send them to prison, using his authority as a refugee sheikh and the authority of his relatives at the UNHCR headquarters in N’Djamena, Abeche, and the General Directorate of Refugees in Gaga camp.
In addition, the sheikh has threatened to coerce and shut down human rights organizations if they send reports to humanitarian agencies.
The sheikh had previously abused his took advantage of his administrative authority in the camp and confiscated a piece of land intended for the construction of a basic school for the new refugees, building a commercial club on his property instead of a school for the refugees.
