Interview – Ahmed Omar Khojaly:
Since the beginning of the aggression of the Rapid Support Militia on Sudan on April 15, 2023 and the large-scale violations it committed in many regions of Sudan and in the state of West Darfur and its capital, El Geneina, the man has continued to play an advanced national role by exposing the crimes of the militia and its supporters at home and abroad, and the Sultan has continued to call for the mobilization of efforts and energies to support the armed forces and the relief of displaced people and refugees due to the militia’s aggression. The Sultan continued to call for mobilizing efforts and energies to support the armed forces and relief for the displaced and refugees due to the militia’s aggression, as well as following up the prosecution of war criminals in local and international courts In this space, (Sudanese Echoes) met with Mr. Sultan, where he explained the latest developments in a number of axes in which he is active these days.
*More than a year after the El Geneina massacre at the hands of the RSF militia, how is the scene in El Geneina?
-For more than a year now, Geneina has been living in the same difficult circumstances, and is almost empty except for a few residents, who have so far been subjected to liquidation, killing, displacement, imposition of tributes and siege, while those in areas of displacement and refuge are suffering greatly in terms of shelter, food, health services, education and sanitary water, and the matter requires urgent measures of relief and assistance.
As for the humanitarian situation, the refugees in Chad are living in difficult conditions, and many organizations have failed to fulfill their obligations towards the refugees. Chad is a small country with limited resources, and despite this, it has worked hard and hosted our people for a long time, so they deserve thanks and appreciation, but the matter requires urgent and continuous appeals to humanitarian organizations to provide the refugees with the necessary necessities of treatment, food and drinking water, and we hope that these organizations will fulfill their obligations in this aspect.
*Whatabout the security and military aspect there?
– On the level of security and military work and ending the militia occupation, there is a technical vision on the part of the armed forces and their supporters in the regular forces, joint forces and the mobilized, God willing, will reach positive and close results.
*Whatis the situation now with regard to the unprecedented crimes of the Rapid Support Militia against your citizens in the Sultanate of Masalit in terms of monitoring evidence, preparing witnesses, following up internal and external procedures, and prosecuting criminals?
-In the aspect of lifting the damage and achieving transitional justice, we started procedures to prove this crime on the scale of international and internal courts, as there have been great violations and terrible damages at the hands of the RSM, and these efforts through a committee with a number of jurists from the region and with them a number of jurists from the different regions of Sudan have advanced and joined this legal committee, and our steps are proceeding in full swing We have a sub-committee that is also active in the same direction in Port Sudan. We met with the Attorney General, Maulana Al-Fatih Tayfour, who interacted with the committee, initiating full cooperation and providing everything that can serve our case through the evidence and reports submitted to the competent committee, we brought a large number of witnesses whose testimonies were heard in order to help the course of justice and prevent impunity for criminals in the courts at home and abroad.
*Whatabout their foreign movements in this regard?
I met with the International Criminal Court and its president, and we are heading for more communication and more meetings, as the ICC investigators reached Idré in Chad and met with many refugees and witnesses and identified the perpetrators of the crimes.
*Do youexpect an imminent step in this aspect?
– On the nineteenth day of next September, the file will be placed before the officials of the Criminal Court and the competent authorities with complete evidence and freedoms, leading to the required purpose, which is to confirm the magnitude of crimes and violations of local laws and international humanitarian law, committing crimes of murder, displacement, looting and rape with all violence and cruelty, and we are now following up with all legal and non-legal authorities.
* Communication for Aid to the AffectedReaching out to provide aid to those affected, what about it?
-We in the Sultanate are in constant communication with national and international organizations and institutions regarding the provision of humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced persons, and we have seen a response from the regional, Arab and European environment.
*Whatabout mobilizing the components of the Sultanate to contribute to the Battle of Dignity?
– The Masalit Sultanate consists of large tribes that joined the Battle of Dignity from the first day of the war, and we directed and still direct calls to our youth everywhere to participate in the Sudanese war against the RSF militia that destroyed, killed and displaced the people of Geneina and also did what it did in many areas of Sudan.
*
– I myself will continue to wonder about the reason for allthis targeting of the Massalit tribe since April 15, 2023 by the Rapid Support Militia, is it because the Massalit tribe is an obstacle to the militia’s project? Or is it related to old grudges and grudges from the militia’s affiliates? But in any case, I say that the RSF militia, with its uniforms, weapons and leaders, is the one who targeted us, killed our citizens and looted our property, and the question will remain.
* The armed movements and their role in the War of Dignity?
-The youth from the first day they declared their stand against the militia, and stood by their families and citizens and did not wait for any guidance from their leadership, they joined at a time when the movements declared neutrality. Now the struggle movements are making great sacrifices and continue to hit the militia in all the battles they fight against it.
*Wasthere a number of your sons in the Rapid Support Militia?
– Yes, they were between 20 to 30 individuals, who left the militia from the first day of the war and stood on the side of the family and the state, fighting with the armed forces.
*What doyou say about Hemedti?
– I did not meet him much except in some social events and committees, so I do not know much about him, but my observations about him are that he is a man who fluctuates in his thoughts and opinions, and I believe that a group of advisors and authorities have led him to these dangerous directions and bad fate.
*Why didyou not participate in the recent consultative meeting in Addis under the auspices of the African Union?
– I received an invitation from the African Union, and through the arrangements and procedures for this participation in the meeting, I felt that I was not welcome and that they would prefer not to participate, as the conference was set on the 10th of the month and the tickets were sent on the 13th, three days after its start, so I apologized and did not go after an important period of the conference.
*
– Correct, I am the Sultan of Dar Masalit, but my word to all honorable Sudanese people, and a call for them to continue to support and support the Sudanese Armed Forces and rally around them against the Rapid Support Militia, the slogan that has become clear that it is realized in the battle of the homeland (that what is taken by force can only be recovered by force).
